My paintings are created by combining intuitive yet planned mark making and completely unrestrained play. In some pieces there are shapes of botanical matter – flowers, branches, lichen, leaves, pods with accents of pencil drawings. Others are compilations of abstract color blocks with contrasting scratches and lines of pencil. Color, shape, texture and line are what express emotions and bring these things to life in my work. Each is a representation of the present moment – calm, chaotic, energetic, reflective and beautiful.
